The Community Organization Resource Center Core Functions
The Community
Organization Resource Center (CORC) focuses on a specified set of functions
designed to provide a cross-section of support for community
organizations.The CORC Core
Functions enable the Center to serve a variety of organizations, regardless of their
area of focus. Based on an organization’s area(s) of need, they can choose
the functions that will best meet their needs. The Core Functions of the
Community Organization Resource Center are:
|
|
- CORC Advisors
- Consultant Network
- Grant Information and Assistance
- Resource Library
- Workshops
- CORC Incubator Hub
|
|
Consultant Advisors are volunteers who serve as the main point of contact for community organizations
who wish to make use of the CORC.. |
|
Consultant Network: The CORC maintains a network of volunteer consultants with a variety
of specialties (finance, legal, accounting, marketing, management, etc.)
who have agreed to share their expertise with community organizations.
There are two avenues of consulting available to CORC visitors:
Volunteer Consultant Network: The Volunteer Consultant Network is a network
of individual volunteers who have agreed to be available for consultations with
individual organizations. Based on the
responses of the needs assessment completed by each organization, a consulting
request is posted in the Volunteer Consultant Network email newsletter. If a particular Volunteer Consultant is interested in offering their assistance to an organization listed in the newsletter, he or she can: forward information to the CORC Advisor to pass along to the organization, contact the CORC Advisor to schedule a consultation meeting with the organization, or contact the organization directly to schedule an individual consultation
Round
Table: The CORC Round Table is
comprised of a core group of volunteer consultants with expertise in a variety
of areas of interest to community organizations (i.e., accounting, management,
fundraising, grant writing, public relations, marketing, volunteer recruitment,
etc.) who agree to meet once a month with CORC Advisors to review community
organization information presented on a case by case basis. Each organization is discussed in turn and
the CORC Round Table provides recommendations, direction, referrals and advice
to the CORC Advisor to be passed along to the organization seeking assistance. The CORC Advisor then meets with the
community organization to share the results of the Round Table session.
|
|
Grant writers: When available, the CORC Advisor will tap the
Volunteer Network to locate community members with grant writing expertise who will
work directly with organizations who need someone to guide them through the
process of creating a grant proposal or to review an existing proposal and make
recommendations for changes and modifications.
The purpose of CORC Grant Writers is to teach organizations how to write effective grant proposals, not to provide a grant-writing service |
|
Workshops: The CORC will host workshops conducted by volunteers and invited guest speakers who have expertise in areas of interest to community organizations. The workshops will provide the opportunity for organizations to not only acquire information from a knowledgeable source, but also share ideas and experiences with other organizations in a cooperative environment which enhances the learning process and provides a beneficial experience for all participants involved |
