Reynolds Foundation Greene County Youth Golf Club
|
Overview: The Greene County Youth Golf Club (GCYGC) is not a "traditional youth golf program", but rather is a program where golf is the theme or vehicle through which kids will be exposed to a variety of activities, opportunities,
relationships and interactions designed to broaden their horizons and establish
a solid foundation in their formative years that participants can call
upon as they mature and develop into young adults and into adulthood.
The Greene County Youth Golf Club is designed in such a way as to expose
participants to all of these opportunities through creative, innovative,
fun activities, events and interactions.
Greene County Youth Golf Club Program Elements
Program elements of the Greene County Youth Golf Club (GCYGC) are currently divided into three (3) main areas of focus: Golf & Golf-related activities, Career Development and Networking. Each area contains aspects and activities designed to expose participants to different components of the “Range of Opportunities” inherent in the game of golf.
(1) Golf & Golf-Related Activities
Golf & Golf-related Activities and events of the Greene County Youth Golf Club are designed to promote recreational enjoyment and expose participants to lessons and values inherent in the game of golf. Encompassing those activities and events typically associated with a traditional golf outreach program for youth, Golf & Golf-Related Activities include: playing golf, field trips, outings, attending golf tournaments, guest speakers, participation in golf clinics and other golf-related activities.
(2) Real World Application Projects
The Real World Application Projects of the Greene County Youth Golf Club
separates the Reynolds Kids Golf Outreach Program from more traditional
models. Within this aspect of the program, GCYGC members will be exposed
to information about the broad range of opportunities made possible through
the game of golf, including the basic components and principles of: golf
course design, course management, course maintenance, golf entrepreneurship,
golf pro shop management, golf instruction and golf journalism. Through
classroom activities, hands-on projects and “shadowing” activities, participants
will be provided with an opportunity to be exposed to various areas of
golf as well as the opportunity to apply that knowledge in very creative
and fun ways to successfully complete assigned projects.
(3) Networking and Mentorship
Within all aspects of The Greene County Youth Golf Club, networking and mentorship relationships will be fostered through participation in activities with “Golf Buddies”, supporters and volunteers. Through completion of carefully-designed projects, participation in golf-related and program events and activities, GCYGC members will be able to interact on a much more involved level with individuals from different walks of life who can expose them to varied experiences and expand their ways of thinking. It is our hope that through these interactions, long-lasting friendships and mentoring relationships will develop.
